The ADKnowl questionnaire contained twenty-seven item sets (114 items) relating to treatments, glycaemic control, physical activity, complication risks, foot care, and food and nutrition. The ADKnowl questionnaire was specifically developed and validated item by item, so that items that were not relevant to a particular purpose were removed without affecting the validity of the instrument. The questionnaire contained two nutrition-specific subscales (item sets 11 and 12, (sixteen questions) that were applicable to all T2DM participants regardless of diabetes treatment type.
