The SKILLD is developed to assess core patient knowledge about diabetes self-care issues, including 10-items on glucose management, appropriate lifestyle modifications, the recognition and treatment of acute complications, and appropriate activities to prevent long-term consequences of uncontrolled disease. The SKILLD was designed based on concepts shown to enhance comprehension among patients with low literacy. Questions are considered correct if the verbal response is consistent with acceptable responses. All questions are weighted equally
