The BASDEC is a valid screening tool for depressive symptomatology in elderly medically ill patients. It consists of a 19-item deck of cards, self-administrated as true or false and I do not know response. Two items are weighted two points, with a maximum score of 21. A score of 7 or above suggests a case of depression.
