The MSES is a 9 item self-report instrument representing three behavioral domains of self-efficacy believed to be important for adoption and maintenance of exercise. (i.e., task, coping, and scheduling efficacy) simultaneously. Whether participants exercised or not, they rated their confidence to perform behaviors described in nine statements consistently for at least six months. They rated their confidence on 10-point scalesranging from“0”(not at all confident)to“10”(completely confident).The ratings for each of the three items were summed and calculated to get a mean score for each of the three subscales.
