The brief 13-item SCS was utilized to assess general self-control. On each item, participants had to indicate to what extent they agreed with the statement on a 5-point Likert scale ranging from ‘not at all like me’ (1) to ‘very much like me’(5). Example items are ‘I am good at resisting temptation’ and ‘sometimes I can’t stop myself from doing something, even if I know it is wrong’.
