This 15-item scale has been developed recently for assessing the care dependency of demented or mentally handicapped in-patients. All categories are marked using a 5-point Likert-type scale. Responses range from being ‘1 = completely dependent’ to ‘5 = almost independent’. Persons who fill in the CDS assess all 15 items by selecting one point from the five-point scale.
